25 years later, Dread Zeppelin leaves Howard Kaylan of The Turtles, Shell Shocked!
Way back in 1991, Dread Zeppelin found themselves rubbing elbows with some of the music industry's biggest stars including Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, Susanna Hoffs, Easy E, Rodney Bingenheimer and many more when the band was nominated for "Critics Choice" at the LA Music Awards.
Although DZ did not win the award that night, the band did make a memorable appearance on the program and also scored a few choice photo ops backstage that you could bet would be featured in the band's fan club newsletter "Dread Talk".
One such chance meeting was when the band crossed paths backstage with Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention singer and founding member of The Turtles, Howard Kaylan.
Never to pass up an opportunity to take a photo with a rock and roll legend, the boys struck a pose while huddling around the iconic 60's singer. Only a few months later would this photograph show up in "Dread Talk" (Volume 2, Number 1) with a full page spread, showcasing the band with industry heavy weights from the award ceremony.
Many years later, Howard Kaylan released a critically acclaimed autobiography titled "Shell Shocked: My Life with the Turtles, Flo & Eddie, and Frank Zappa, Etc." but sadly, there was no mention of this legendary meeting between Kaylan and Dread Zeppelin in the book.
It wasn't until twenty five years after this photograph was taken that a famed radio disc jockey and Dread Zeppelin fan, Eddie Winters took to twitter in an attempts to jog Kaylan's mind about the night. Happy together or just plain shell shocked? You decide...
