The Royal Roost and Cash Cow Productions announce THE GREATEST DREAD ZEPPELIN STORY EVER TOLD, a new documentary feature film currently in production.
This is the untold story of Dread Zeppelin, a pioneering band and pop-culture phenomenon that performed reggae versions of Led Zeppelin songs, sung by a 300 pound Elvis Presley impersonator. Conceived as a joke in late 80’s Pasadena, CA, their send-up of rock mythology and tabloid culture unexpectedly took the world by storm when this “ultimate tribute band” was signed to IRS Records. Immediately endorsed by Robert Plant, audiences and critics alike were forced to question whether they were “one of the most innovative pop culture satires around or just another milestone on the road to societal collapse.”

Narrated by Mackenzie Astin (The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, 30 Years of Garbage: The Garbage Pail Kids Story), THE GREATEST DREAD ZEPPELIN STORY EVER TOLD uses never-before-seen home videos, archival footage, photographs and interviews and critically analyzes nearly 30 years of satirical folklore to finally define the undefinable. Far more than just a novelty band, Dread Zeppelin personified hyper-consumption, celebrity worship and tabloid sensationalism to reveal deeper truths about America’s identity. By embracing the absurdities of a postmodern, apocalyptic world in intellectual decline, they became the perfect embodiment and reflection of a society driven to madness.

Playing over 250 shows a year throughout North America, South America, Europe, Japan and Australia, Dread Zeppelin sold over 1 million copies each of their first and second records. To date, the band has released 15 studio albums and remain an international cult favorite among their devoted followers.
THE GREATEST DREAD ZEPPELIN STORY EVER TOLD is a collaboration between San Francisco based, independent production company, The Royal Roost, and Dread Zeppelin’s own production company, Cash Cow Productions. The film is being directed by Sharif Nakhleh and produced by Jason Dove. In production since mid-2015, they are currently in talks with investors and hope to see a 2018 release.
